I built this motor. 460 with the the 514 kit in it. dove heads. i have the milodon rear sump 8 quart oil pan on it. while pre oiling it with a drill "intake manifold was off" around a 1000 rpm on the oil pump. showed 70-80 lbs for a few seconds then the gauge started jumping and air bubbles started to come up into the valley. it pumped the pan dry. so we got another 2 1/2 quarts and that solved that problem. Now my crank seals are out. what has to be done to make this work right. i spent to much money on this motor to have oil runnin all over the place and gettin on the belts and stuff. I thought about a bigger oil pan but hows that gonna work. the motor is in a 76 ford f250 4wd drive pulling truck. Help would be appreciated. Thanks
i have the same oil pan on my 521.i used a canton pick-up tube(cantons truck pan is almost identical) and have had no problems like this.by "crank seals" you mean rear main and balancer seal?mine runs at 80lbs and i've had no blow outs.i used a 1 pc oil pan gasket for a newer (93) 460 .any leaks i have are my fault not the parts.
Pretty much any performance store online. Summit and jegs carry them for sure and you can even go to the online site for the oil pan supplier. The canton part # for the pickup is #16-775. Here is the milodon one...
the reason i used this tube instead of the milodon one-the canton one has a mesh screen and the milodon one has holes perforated in a piece of sheet metal.looked restrictive and tom a ford motorsport said they had problems with some 514 crates cooking bearings and the only possible cause they could see was the screen.you can get the pickup right from canton.i got mine from lane automotive.
