Differential Flange Not Fitting
I have an 88, with a 302 that I am trying to replace the pinion seal on the rear differential.
Got the seal in and after tightening the bolt on the flange it still has a bit of a gap and some play in the flange.
Is there some special method of replacing the seal and flange?

yes it is between the seal and flange.
Actually there is a gap between them after fully tightening the nut.
Someone told me there is supposed to be a washer that goes on before the nut, but there was one there when I took it off and there is not one in the pictures in the Chilton manual.

We make a mark on the flange and the differential case, but not on the nut.
If it helps any we had to take the cover off the differential as we have a leak in on the seals near one of the tires.

Yeah thats not good, you should get a new crush sleave, and redo the preload so you don't destroy your gears. While your at it, take a pic of the problem so we can see whats going on.

Can you translate that into language the Chilton manual uses, I see nothing in it about those things?
