main journals have been turned
do rebuilders stamp the crank if it has been turned
its been 30 years since the last time i was in an engine
You need to pull the distributor and get a pump primer to put on the end of a drill to properly prime an oil pump. You should be able to pick a primer up at any local reputable parts store. I let mine turn for about five minutes of so to make sure that the whole engine assembly is properly oiled before start up. I figure I am better safe than sorry when it come to oil starvation.
Usually, installing a an HV pump won't cure the problem since it's usually caused by worn bearings. You may get a little more oil flow to the bearings, but I doubt you'll see much change in pressures, unless the old pump is worn out. It may simply be time for a rebuild.
When a crank is turned, the new specs are usually painted on to the front counterweight, often with a yellow paint marker.
Iwouldn't opt for the HV pump, just put on the stock replacement pump, ( Melling) An HV pump would just be a band aid. You may have a cam bearing situation, or a worn out oil pump, by-passing oil thru the relief valve. I don't pull distributors and such, just pour a little oil in the new pump, insert the shaft, and give it a few spins via fingertips. If it pumps out the same way you poures it in, spin it the other way, and install. Don't forget to pick up a new pump driveshaft. (5$) AKA- PRICELESS!! Smear lots of grease on the new shaft to hold it in place in the dist. hole and install. My $.02
