1962 Ford Pickup, $700

Hey everybody,

I have just found this site a couple days ago and I have been spending hours upon hours looking at EVERY THING on this site!!!!

I know someone who has a 1962 Ford F-100 twin beam manual that is in fair-good condition for $700, or a little less. I am looking for a Ford to be my first Truck, is this a good one? Worth $600-700? I havent seen it yet, but I am going to go look at it tommorrow.

Thanks!

Corey

Corey, Not if the truck is original because twin I-beam didn't come about until 65.

Corey, the basic body style is the same from 61 to 66. There are differences in cab steps, inner fenders, radiator supports, grills, and some to 64 have 59 beds on them.

I would recomend you going to the photo gallery for a closer look at what the truck should look like.

The truck shouldn't be rusted a lot (surface rust is ok) check underneith for rot. Look at the greese under there.

If the truck is desent at all, and not banged up or loaded with bondo. $700.00 isn't too much to pay. I would want it to be above average.

I went and took a real quick look at it today. It was in pretty good condition from what I saw from the road. It looks like a longbed.

I REALLY WANT THAT TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know anything about it like how much gas it gets a mile? how much it is really worth? Anything to that matter, anything to wet my apetite and make me want it even MORE!!!!

Maybie tommorrow I can post some pictures of it and you can see it and tell me what yall think.

Thanks, Corey

The main factor in gas mileage is cubic inches; to even give you a close estimate we would need to know what engine it has, and the rear gearing.

I have a 69 that I paid 650 for. So 700 would not be to bad. Mine had some rust on it but that was to be expected! If we could see a picture of it that would be great!:-) As for the gas mileage, Andrew is right, we need to know the engine that is in it. Do you plan on restoring it or just driving it? 2wd or 4x4? Probably a unibody(cab and box connected)? Let us know, there is plenty of help here.

I have about 10 months to wait till I get my license, so I have some time time to get it the way I want it to look. I might raise it a little, and so somethings to the interior sor sure. It will be my new project to work on, when I get it.

If I can tommorrow, I will go ask the owner everything about it, and take some pictures to post. What are there some things I sould ask, to give yall an idea on what is for sale?

I have done got myself all excited about that derned truck!!!!!!

A few ideas what what to ask. Find out how long he has had the truck, where he got it? Why he wants rid of it? What work has been done to it (what needs replaced, what's been replaced)? What engine is in it, is it original? Any odd things you should know about it? Before you buy it ask him if he will take anything less than 700 (the first time I looked at my truck is was advertised for 1000, he went down to 800 a few weeks later, went and looked at it again and paid 650 for it). Take a parent or other relative or friend that has some experience in vehicles, they will help you with the sale part. There is no need to rush into these things, make sure this is what you want.

Brent, that is some sound advise, but be careful, and go easy about what needs to be replaced, you ARE talking about a near 40 year old truck.

Corey, for $700.00 bucks, you want a pretty solid truck, there are tooooo many out there, and I can tell you want to spend a lot of money on it already, and you haven't gotten any closer to it, than the road.

John you're right about the 40 year old truck thing. I was thinking some of the more obvious things. If he went into detail you may be there awhile.;-)

LAST EDITED ON 12-Nov-00 AT 09:04 PM (EST)[p]I still havent gone up to the house yet, but I did take a couple pictures of it. I messed around with the paint program and I made it look the way I would want it to be. I sure do hope I can get it!!!!!

I know that it is 38 years old. I have a 1958 13ft Wooden Racing boat I am about 95% finished with, I am going to need a new project. One reason I want this truck is because I want something to go along with the boat! I put a photo of the boat on too.

Corey, I just love that race engine on your boat. I'll bet that thing makes an awesome rooster tail. ;-)

From the pictures you may have found a good truck, get a closer look, and tell us what you find. About the boat, looks nice, if you do that with your truck, it will look good.
