I have an 86 F150 4x4 with a standard cab that I would like to swap the cab on. Can anyone tell me what years match up with regards to the sheet metal. It looks like Ford used the same body style for the cab all the way to 92 but I haven't had the opportunity to break out the tape measure to check let alone check the body mount locations. I would like to swap in a crew cab if possible. I know that the frame will need to be lengthened and / or a 6.5 foot bed will be needed. My wife and I are family planning and I don't want to sell my truck. I have two options, leave the truck alone, listen to the wife complain and drive the rugrats around in a minivan >shudders< Or look into this swap.
Up to 97 should be a straight swap as far as bolting, but speedo, guages and the lie are other problems that arise. To keep the cable drive speedo, you need to stay 91 and older. Otherwise, you go to a rear axle speed sensor for speedo. Doors will swap, just watch the triangle window, they differ, as does the main window from 80-86, 87-91, 92-97. Personally, I would look for an extended cab, as it will be a bit easier to do in regards to frame length and the box to be able to make it work out. By the time you buy a lot of this stuff, you may have the same amount wrapped up in buying the sheet metal and parts as you would in buying another truck.
