My B4000's check engine light came on the other night and I was wondering what to expect. After reading other posts here, I think I will go by the auto parts store to have them check the codes. My truck has a little over 57k miles on it and I was wondering if this could just be programmed to come on around 60k miles so I have to take it in to the dealership so they can try to charge me for the 60k mile maintenance and reset the light. Am I just being paranoid or what should I expect to have to pay for?

I'm not aware of any such "feature". I think if the light is on, something is reporting a failure on the truck. Get the code read at the parts store and post it here. You'll probably find someone that has had that problem before (or even recently) who will give you a nice post about how to fix it up. Even if you have to bring it to the dealer to get serviced, at least you'll know what kind of bill you are walking into there.
So I went by the AutoZone and had them check for the code. Came up "EGR flow excessive" i think its p0402? I remembered getting a warranty extension notice a couple years ago about the DPFE so I'm hoping that is what is going on here so it can be done for free by the dealership. Of course I'm gonna have to bring it in to them and get charged for them to diagnose it (assuming its not the DPFE) everything I'm reading says the most common issue is the DPFE so let's cross our fingers. More info here if anyone else has the issue: (http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...e-detected.php)
P0402=Exhaust gas recirculation, excessive flow detected.
Could be the DPFE sensor, it's a commom problem.
Could be the EGR valve seat is leaking some, or maybe it's carboned up some & stuck open.
Were/are you having any drive ability problems just before, or since the trouble light came on????? Like maybe the engine feels sluggish, runs rough, or won't idle right, ect.
You might find the DPFE information in the "Tech Info" thread, located atop this forums main page informative.

I think maybe your a little paranoid about the Dealers & your trouble light!!!!
It only comes on when the computer doesn't feel good, or something hurts!!!! lol
No pre-programmed things that I've heard of anyway!!!!
If anything it's probably just the O2 sensor, and it's not something that needs replacing as soon as the light comes on either.
If anything, that's probably NOT the case.
O2's usually signal other actual underlying issues with the emissions sytem...only when the sensors are tested and confirmed to be dead are they an actual problem. If you are into that actually diagnosing an issue sort of thing...
