I know Beach owns one of these, but I never heard how the installation went and exactly what he used. I live way out in the sticks and we have NO streetlights and very narrow roads with tons of deer and other critters. I'm wanting to find out how safe this system is to install and what mods have to be made? I've read a lot of horror stories about electrical fires from the increased loads and wanted to hear from people using them.
I'm just wanting to avoid issues with warranty and issues with the extra load on the system with the PSD.
Install took about an hour and mostly becuase my big hands had a hard time fitting behind the headlights (on passenger side) to get the bulb out and back in.
I used a 90-degree angle bracket and used it to mount to an existing bolt (see photo in my gallery). I am not into drilling holes in my truck. There is more room to install on the passenger side and it hooked up just like the instructions showed/stated.
I like it and the most I have driven with it on is 30 minutes... but it all works as presented. Geno's garage has the lowest price for the "BriteBox" and was only $99 or so with the fog light control feature.
Geno's is the least expensive of all the sites I could find!!!
p.s. - The key is not to touch the bulb with your dirty fingers... it will cause the bulb to overheat due to oils and skin oils on your hands/fingers!!!!
Along with the BriteBox mod I also installed a heavy duty light wiring harness and SilverStar bulbs, this combo is literally "night and day". For those interested here is an interesting thread about auto lighting.
Its easy to install, unplug the head light, plug in the brite box in place of the head light plug. Then the head light harness goes to the brite box.
There is one wire the needs to goto the batt.
There is no extra load on the wiring, when you turn on the highbeams, you trip a relay and the power comes right from the batt.
I have had one for almost 2 years now,i love it.

Don't forget... if you have factory fog lights there is this wire to connect to either one of the fog light bulb sockets.
Yeah, but i didnt get the one for the fog lights.I just dont use these lights, only cause they dont give off much light.
Green: FYI just use some 9005 NH/BP2 (GE nighthawk, this is what I used) in the fog lights. They twist right into place and make a huge difference. Just be sure to get the Right angle (90 degree) plug. Something like 40-42w(oe) to 60-65w, and the factory angle of the light housing I have yet to get the high-beam flash from other drivers. Now my fog lights out shine my headlights....go figure!
Oh yeah cut and grounded the wire for the fog light mod...that is very nice also.
Next up...yep bright box, now I might actually be able to see where I am going...
Oops, almost forgot...about 40-50hrs with the 9005's and no problems.
I installed it too. Didn't use the fog light setup thou as i did the fog mod also so I can have them on when I want vs. all the time. Like mentioned earlier it wires direct to the bat w/ an inline fuse and it is plug and shine.
Perhaps I received the one-out-of-a-thousand that was bad. I installed a Brite Box because a friend had one and he showed me the difference between stock and the BB light pattern at night.
I took the time to remove the battery and install it according to directions. All was good for about 6 months (I don't drive my truck much at night) until I noticed my right headlight was very dim. I thought I had a bad bulb so I changed both OEM headlight bulbs out for Silverstars. No change to right side, the light was still just as dim as before. Logic said to disconnect the Brite Box and plug back in the factory headlight plugs. Wouldn't you know that's what it was. Both headlights are brighter than the OEM bulbs. Now my Brite Box just hangs disconnected behind the battery.
As I said, I followed the installation instructions and have the drain hole at the bottom. I miss the "extra bright light" from having both low and high beams on together when in the hunting woods and using the Brite box.
However, I'm not buying another one. Just wanted to pass on my experience. I hope this is an isolated instance and no one else's goes bad. Everything else on my lighting system was stock.
Wow...This thing was really easy to install. I double checked it because it seemed like I was missing something. It works great...Just gotta wait till dark to test it out. Only took 45 minutes to install.
