I have a chance of buying an F150 Scab with a 4.2 V6 and 5 spd. From what I have found, the gas mileage is about the same as the 4.6 V8. Does anybody with the V6 wish they had a V8?
I am happy with my 4.2. The only thing I miss is the V8 sound. I just use mine to get around and pull my boat to the lake. It will stay up with any traffic I have ever been in. Might not win some races, but good daily transportation.
Ditto the above. If you either WANT or NEED more power fro towing or personal pleasure, but a V8.
If you need a nice daily driver, that gets pretty good gas mileage, and don't do regular towing over 3000 lbs or so, then the 4.2 will work fine.
The V6 is not for everybody, but then again neither is an F350 diesel.
I had a 2000 with the 5 speed and currently have an '05 with auto.
Both trucks suit me well and I have never regretted buying either.
Good trucks for the money in my book.
But, as I like to say, it's your money so buy what YOU want and like, not what somebody else wants or likes.
As a side note, I once had a guy tell me I should have bought one with the V8. I offered to go strike a deal if he was willing to lay down the extra cash.
I'm still driving my V6.
