another 66 P/S swap

Hello All
I have been enjoying reading all the questions and answers for a year or so now, but just now getting around to signing on. My question is,and I did go back and do a lot of reading of past threads, I believe it was John who has the 66 he has changed over already. When I changed my 65 over I used a 74 Bendix P/S box from Auto-Zone, well I ran into the problem of the holes didn't match exactly and had to waller the holes out a lil to make it fit. So now I got my hands on a 66 with the DJM drop I-Beams, power disc set-up, and an 84 model 302 with an AOD tranny. I believe he said he used a 76 P/S box ?? Was it a direct bolt on ?? I also have full length headers with about one inch to spare between the header and the armstrong box in it now, will I be ok there? I also plan to use, as I did before, an IDIDIT column and trash the factory one. One more thing, the 84 engine is the serpentine belt, so I suppose it's a trip to the boneyard for the brackets I will need, any advice as to what years will work ? Thanks to all in advance, you know, this computer thang might just be OK after all.

Tommy, Welcome in out of the bushes and to the FTE family. I don't know what you may have gotten from the Azone (God only knows)but all 65-79 gears bolt up. The difference is the power gear is longer on top where the fluid hoses connect, therefore the need for the shorter column shaft. I'm not sure about different pump pressures, but the pump is more engine oriented. You will need to have one to fit your engine setup. If you want a new one you will need a core so grab the pump while you are getting the brackets, and I would run it until you have to change it, aint that big of a deal to change. Don't forget cooling for the return line. I don't know about the ididit column, I am running the 76 column.

Good luck on the change out, and don't forget to close your thread when you get finished.

John
Thanks for the info, so would I be better off trying to get a box from the boneyard, or someone like Carolina Classics or Flashback F-100's ? Their boxes run about $100.00 to 125.00 and the new one from a-zone was only $169.00. The IDIDIT colum worked great, as long as you don't mind spending a lil time figuring out the brand-X wiring to the Ford wires, although this time I will go with a 30" instead of a 32".
