Personally, I think it would be a mistake to make that kind of swap on a truck. It isn't going to be cheap, whatever it will end up costing, but the headache alone will be bad. Also, don't forget about the decrease in HP and Torque. The diesel (not choosing sides here.......) put's out more power than the V-8. You will loose that in a swap. You will end up with a truck that runs slower and will inevitably burn more fuel trying to do what it used to do. I am sure I am missing alot more that is not so obvious in a engine swap.

Yea but my current Sd/5.4 is more then enough for my needs and the three valve engine will be alttle better, i pull 7000lbs with no real issues around here, no long hills where the power is really needed. and i get 200,000+ miles out of a engine ,so the added expense of a diesel is not justified.

Not that I agree or disagree with your logic, if you bought it, it would be your truck so do what you want. If you decide to go ahead with it let me know, I would willingly help you dispose of the old diesel stuff. PM me. As far as differences, not sure if the tranny control module is the same even if it would bolt up, then there is the intercooler, and the main computer. Lots of little stuff to take care of. It would be possible, complex, but possibe.

Thanks for the imput so far ,

but I should have said it engine less, it was a theft job, the down and dirty type, so alot of stuff got hacked up in the process of removing the engine.

any ways it pretty easy to buy a wrecked SD with the 5.4 and get all I need, like the dash, wiring ,cpu etc etc..for a swap.

Unless this truck is like $500 WALK AWAY. Modern trucks are an entirely diffrent ball game than they were even 10 yrs ago. Just the wiring and plumbing alone would cost a small fortuine.

If you're dead set on this undertaking, You would be money ahead to use the engineless trucks body work to FIX that wrecked 5.4 SD.

But either way you go it'll probably be cheaper to buy a running truck from a used car lot.
