I am buying a ranger and i need to figure out what transmission it has. They have told me that it has an overdrive transmission in it but i don't believe them on this. I want to know how to look at the oil pan to tell the difference between an aod or a c4 by the oil pan. I know the c4 is a better transmission for what i am going to do to the ranger. The ranger has a 302 in it already but the motor has a knock so they say and no carb so i can't hear it run. I am going to put a mildly build 302 in it and want a trans that will take the beating its going to take. also it has a ratchet shifter so there is no looking at the prndl to see if there is a over drive postion. If you don't know prndl stands for the park reverse neutral drive and low. Any help will be appreciated.
