292 swap 360
I have a '64 Ford with a 292 in it and I was wondering if I could put a 360 or something bigger in it. Also, I want a faster rear end. My brother has a '69 Ford and I want to switch his axle, but his is a 1/2 ton mine is a 3/4 ton. Will that work?

The motor swap is a really good one in my opinion. Call Dennis Carpenter of the like and get the Trans-a-dapt motor mount crossmember and motor mount kit for this application. It is literally a drop in. The transmission mount is also available for both std. shift transmissions as well as an automatic. Ask them when you call. You will have to cut the rivets and remove the existing frame member thatis right under (below) your firewall. Be careful of the brake and fuel lines that run through this area.
As far as the rear end swap, there are more qualified members here that can advise you on that one. I think both trucks have the standard 9" rear end, and if that is so, you can swap the "chunk" or third member directly without any other modification.

[font color=red size=3]Why a 360? Do you have a good used one laying around? Don't get me wrong, I love FEs, I would recommend a 390. If you are rebuilding or buying a 360 I would recommend getting a 390 or making the 360 into a 390. Same block, just different crank, rods and pistons. It will have WAY more power. Just a thought.
As far as the rearends go... measure the length of both (wheel to wheel). They need to be the same length. I believe they are different, 1/2tons had the 9inch, 3/4tons didn't. If they are the same length, you can have a welding shop take the mounts off your axle and put them onto the '69. It may be cheaper/easier to buy new gears for your current rearend and have them installed. I would suggest around 3.50 ratio, that's what my '73 has and they are perfect with the 390. But that's my opion.
