there are tuners that turn the vgt into a makeshift exhaust break. as far as an actuall exhaust brake, the valve train is not setup for the exhaust brake
Brian...I use the SCT XCAL2 that has an exhaust brake function setup in the Tow mode. I've been amazed how well it works. I've driven many trucks with a true exhaust brake and this thing is about 80percent actual compared to an equipped truck. There are a few others in the forum that have the same tuner setup this way that like their equally. You can also use the Tow/Haul as well. I'm on the road now with my 5th wheel and it works like a charm. The cost is much more affordable than an exhaust brake systems but you can't use on the 6.0.
apperently you haven't looked at my thread on this subject. I've asked the same question and all I get is the same stuff. Nobody has one here, although some do use the programmer feature. and brian, yes you can.
Yes you can use one on the 6.0L. We carry a brand called Pacbrake. They make a system for the 6.0L. I have not sold one of these, mainly cause we sell the custom SCT that has the programmer option these other guys are talking about. It does work very well. Here is a LINK to more info on the Pacbrake Exhaust brake system.
DiscountPower...Have you ever driven a 6.0 with one of the PAC-Brakes installed? I know you've tried the SCT and was just wondering how you thought it compared/felt?
What's the reason that you can't use the PAC-Brake with a 2005 6.0 with the factory brake controller? Does it have to be turned all the way down or not present at all?
The last F250 that I drove with a Exhaust Brake was the 7.3 setup. It was the Banks setup.
I was told by my dealer tech that the 6.0L was not built to handle the back-presure of an exhaust break. For it to work, the "guts" of the motor must be strong and heavy enough to witstand the "pressure" and the heads, gaskets, rods and the like are not designed with these needs.
This was the reason that Tow-Haul was designed as a "poor-mans" braking assist system and the reason that the new Tow-Command was built into the truck last year.
Yes, people sell them, but again it does not mean they are good for it.
Drive slower at the crest of hill, shift down, use tow haul and do not ride one's brakes while going downhill.
I've done that before, and my truck started to run away with me! I say the 6.0 can handle it and I'm gunna go for it, the real brake, not the program version, I mean. Here's hoping.

Let us know how it works and how the install went.
It's probably not going to be till summer. I want the BD brake, but I'd still like to hear from someone who actually has used one. I guess those guys don't hang out here. I know a ton of guys that use them on their cummins, but thats no stroker! I've read the manual for it a bunch of times and it doesn't look too bad to install, but we'll see. One of my best friends is a mechanic and lets me use his houst whenever I need it (wow, it makes a big difference) and he's excited to see how it works too. Now I just need to win enough money to pay for it. I won't leave you hanging though, tazo. You've been right with me trying to get some feedback on this topic.
bareback be prepared for a damaged engine. make sure you set aside about 10 G's for a replacement due to a $500 or so for an exhaust brake. the engine is not set up for one as per ford and that is why you dont hear much about this.
The engine will stand an exhaust brake, the VGT will not. Your better off with a custom file from SCT for towing which works better because it involves the transmission.
