ckowen,

First off welcom to FTE lots of good people and information around here.

How about giving us some information on your truck to help pinpoint what we are dealing with, ie model year, engine.

ckowen,

Could be a cracked Y-pipe, there is a TSB out on this, don't have the link to it in front of me.

I would take it to Ford and let a qualified diesel tech check it out.

Hope this helps

I haven't notice smoke really, but I have not looked while it is running. Mine does have oil and soot splattered all over the underside of the hood. The hood is white with no hood liner so it is easy to see. Mostly concentrated directly over the turbo. They are putting a new turbo on it now. I won't now if this fixes the problem till next week. Apparently for a qualified diesel tech, this is a 1.5 week job.

turbo

it takes them a week and a half to replace the turbo that doesn't sound right. the turbo isn't that hard to get to and replace. I can put an entire supercharger system and intercooler on the new bodied mustangs in a day, day and a half. that is with nothing to start with. at least all the plumbing a exhaust is already there all thay have to do is remove some parts and put them back shouldn,t take more than 2 maybe 3 days. why are they replacing the turbo?

Well, just got off the phone with them, I guess they were waiting for me to give them the go ahead to repair it. Keep in mind this was scheduled for the truck to be dropped off monday morning (25th). I guess they thought I just wanted them to store it?

replacing the turbo because of lack of boost pressure, no power, and the oil and junk on the bottom of the hood above the turbo.

I see, so smoke is just coming out of the turbo housing? Weird. No lack of boost either?

Smoke coming from around the back of the turbo on an 03 model truck is a sure sign of a cracked y-pipe.

Replacing the y-pipe should take about 2 hours, but they may have to order the pipe and/or they may be backed up with diesel work.
