I have a 2003 F150 Supercrew and recently took it in for service at a dealership. Was concerned that conditioned air came our of the vents on every setting, but "panel". In the heat of the summer, there was no need to turn it too "A/C" because "panel/floor" or "def/floor" would blow cold enough air to cool the cab down. I was told by the dealership this is normal and they could install a switch to disable the air conditioning all together if I wanted. Does anyone else have this concern? There are some passengers that I drive with that are allergic or prefer no air conditioning.
If you take the time to read your owner's manual, you will see what mode switch positions do or do not use the air conditioner.
It woud be a simple task to install a disable switch for the compressor so you can turn it off or on at will without regard to the main control setting. If this is a big concern, take the dealership up on their offer.
Thanks for the quick reply. Wow...am I a big dummy for not reading my owners manual! One would think in a normal vehicle, "A/C" and "A/C Max" would actually be the air conditioning settings. Then again, the last vehicle I owned was a 1982 F150 and before that 1978 F150 and before that a 1971 F100. All this new fancy smanshy techno-ology!..hehe.
I'm still confused as to why this is the way it is, but am able to live with it. Just wondered if anyone else out there shared the same opinion.
