Grinding Noise

Hello.
I drive a 97 expedition. Under light medium or heavy acceleration there is what sounds like a grinding noise from what i believe is the rear axle and i can feel shaking in the pedals. If i take my foot off the gas, the grinding stops. The expedition has 160k miles on it and has never given me problems b4.

Thanks,
Matt (AIM: takingbacksaosin) - send me an AIM if you have any idea. THanks

Are you also turning when you have the noise? If you have the limited slip rear end, you may need to change your fluid. The dirty/old fluid can cause your clutch packs to make noise.

I have an 2003, but most of the parts and problems are the same. I had the same noise, accelerating from a stop light and turning used to make this noise. I bought some FRICTION Modifier from the parts department at Ford, cost about $5. I had another garage(meineke) put it in when I got the oil changed there. It goes in the only bolt you see on the rear axle. They popped it in for free with the oil change. Try that first, before doing any "suggested" work on the axle. ps. if you have ford put it in, I believe wanted over $50 for it that is why I used the "by the way line could you guys put this in real quick" at meineke.

See my last entry--Probably just Friction Modifier and they wanted to squeeze you for service charges.
