I have a 87 F-150 with the 351W. The motor is shot so I'm replacing it with another 351W. My question is do I have to swap over all the emissions crap to the new motor. I've been told the new motor is an 83.
For example, here's the t-stat housing on my 87.
Here's the t-stat on the new motor (83).
I'd prefer to remove all the emissions crap. Would I just have to change the dist and carb? Can someone tell me more about the vacuum lines(how many and routing) on the 83?
I'm a newb so as much help as possible would be great!
do you have emissions testing where you live? I installed an 86 351w in my 78 f100,put on a wieand intake and edelbrock carb after I ran the motor for a couple months,it ran tons better without all the emissions stuff. as far as vacuum line routings,I can't help you there, sorry. I think autozone might have some diagrams on their web site.
your installing an 83 motor into your 87 truck right. I would run what ever is on your 87 motor on the 83. the emissions you could leave off but know any testing it may not pass.
