Dpfe question

I had a P1400 code on my 2002 explorer. Went down to auto zone a purchased one and installed it (lasted a week before the service engine light came back on). I read in a couple of posting that there has been problems with the after market. So, went down to the Ford dealership and purchased one from them. My question is when I pulled off the original DPFE small amount of water came out of the sensor. When I just took off the after market to install the Ford brand DPFE there was some water in this sensor too. Is this common? If not where could it be coming from? IS this what could be causing my problem?

Thanks for all the help anyone can give me.

The water is probably coming from the exhaust gases. This is a pressure sensor that reads exhaust backpressure in the tube that feeds the EGR. The computer opens the egr, and then expects the pressure to drop in the exhaust tube.

I read that P1400 is an error the computer gives when the signal voltage is out of range. The lowest it can go is .2v. So it's either the sensor again or you have a wiring problem there at the plug.

Unplug the sensor and run the truck and see if you get a different error code. You may get another which means the signal voltage is too high. If that happens I would say the wiring is good and it's the sensor again.

You would think that they could come up with some type of diaphram device that would transfer the pressure to the sensor...instead of pumping that hot exhaust gas right to the sensor. Hmmmm........

The sensor you are talking about has had a lot of problems with water getting in them. Both from the exhaust gases, as well as outside sources (deep water crossing, road splash, ect.)
