I'm looking for a full size van. I can't aford a new van. I'm weighing the pro's and con's of a E150 vs E250. I want to try and get a 5.4L V8 or at least a 4.6 V8 with a VIN "6" Windsor motor. I just can't seem to find a good selection of vans. I've even concidered buying a cargo van (1/2 or 3/4 ton)and having a conversion company do the conversion for me. I checked the internet but the sales devices on the internet are too generic and really won't tell me what is being offered for sale.
What I really need is three things. First tips on van selection and choise. What are good years, what are good options, and what should I just not get. Second, where to find what I'm looking for? I live in a pretty desolate area of the southwest and there's not much around. Last has anyone ever had a conversion done on a van after the initial purchase? Details on that would be most welcomb.
Did you get any results from your post? I, too, am wondering which models of the 90's are the best vans. What years were bad? I have an '83 which is wearing out. I need a 12 passenger v-8 with tinted windows all around, and I'll build in a camper unit myself. So, any help you can give me from your experience would be welcomed. Thanks.
I bought a 1996 Club Wagon Chateau new in Nov 1995. Have 60K miles on it and it still runs like a top. Only problem ever had was with the stereo system CD player - keeps trying to eject a phantom CD. Solved by just putting an old CD in and forgetting it. Would recommend it for long distance family travel. Great for teens since it gives them lots of room with no elbow fights! Rear bench seat folds down for a queen bed! Great storage space for family luggage or Home Depot projects. Make sure you put good heavy duty LT tires on. Replaced factory tires at 15K with Michelin LT and they have been great with lots of tread still left. Recommended van to neighbor who purchased new 2002 model last month. Good luck
