i buddy of mine wants to sell me a 8' bed i know i should probley fine a 6' bed but hes selling me this for cheap so my question is has anybody choped a 8' bed to a 6' if so any tips on doing this?
I haven't done it but been considering it my self. I found an article in Nov. '06 Street Rodder That shows how to cut down a model A bed 12 in. What i want to do is shorten my truck 12 in. frame and bed. I'd look for ashort bed truck but i'm attached to this one. I fyou find more info, please pass it along.
A model A bed is much easier to cut up and reshape than beds of the 60's through today, because the model A bed is a steel box. The inside wall, and the outside wall of the bed is the same metal sheet.
Newer beds have two walls - the outside and the inside, so it's a lot more work to cut, shape, and reattach the two sections. Obviously totally doable, but it's just more work and more things to line up before applying some magic "welding glue".
