Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the dashpot on 352 2v carburetor is for.I have a 1966 f-100 with 352 and the dashpot does not let it idle all the way down sometimes.I can not adjust it any, and I thought about just taking it off.My truck is a 3 speed and I thought the dashpot was just needed on an automatic! Thanks,Russell
Since you have a manual transmission you probably could take
it off. I experimented around with my automatic 65 mustang
with a 302 and it had a dashpot. There's some sort of interaction between the motor and the torque convertor because
if you take the dashpot off, everything is fine till you goose
the throttle while in drive. It will make the engine stall out
and quit. If you put the dashpot back on, it lets the engine
idle down gradually and it won't stall while in drive.
Russell; The dash pot keeps the throttle from slaming shut and stalling the engine between shifts and whenever you let off the gas quickly. It should function the same all the time. Sounds as if yours is sticking on occassion.
