I have problem with the auto tranny on 2004 truck, it is 2wd with a 4.6.
There is a judder as you drive it through the gears, its not always there and not always in the same pattern but is normally between 1000-2000rpm.
There are some days when you are lucky and it rides smooth but they are few.
Its just like a misfire on a 4 cylinder car, its been suggested we change the 3 solenoids in the auto box, but if we do that does it need re booting at the dealer ?
Also I know there is an ecu for the engine is there a seperate box, brain ,ecu which controls the tranny ? In UK so knowledge of this product is slim.
how many miles? have you flushed and filled the trans recently as part of your regular maintenance? Do you ever use your parking brake? Do you have a limited slip differential?
It has covered 52000, the tranny has had the oil changed, pan off and filter checked. The tranny was not touched at all until 50000 when it started to play up, is this bad thing it has spent 40% of it life towin 1500lbs around on a trialer.
I do not use the brake very often, just changed the pads on the rear and the parking brake is not sticking at all, there is not LS diff as I know of .
Thanks in advance
1500 lb. towing isn't a huge load to haul for these things, but doing it for that many miles can still put a large strain on the drivetrain components. Do you have the towing package on that, with the larger tranny oil cooler? If not, then towing something for that long may have prematurely aged the internals of the tranny, from gearing to vacuum thingamabobs. I may still leaning towards a torque converter problem, also due to the towing. Was the towing done in stop and go environments or more highway?
Bit of a misunderstanding ? I always use the P facility on the stick which locks the transmission and rarely use the foot operated hand brake, is that good or not ?
Answer to Reforder, don't think the tow package is on this one as it came to me used with 700 miles on it, I guess that 75% of the miles would have been on long haul keeping it rolling for 2-3 hours a time at around 65 mph.
