what kinda cam lift can i run on a stock 400 rocker arm, right now i am runnin a .509 lift and no isssues, also, i am kinda wanting to run a cam that'll chug a little bit, the one i have now is a summit brand 5201 and it idles too freakin smooth, as smooth as a factory cam i pulled out of it
That cam has a lot of lift for stock valve springs. Did you replace the valve springs when you installed the cam?
It also has 276 degrees intake duration, which is plenty for a heavy vehicle. It should have a decent sound, but your torque at low RPM will be reduced. You need to increase the compression to run a bigger cam.
the compression for that cam would need to be about 9.5:1 or so i'm thinking to get the full benefit from it. you would be able to run pump 87 w/o a problem.
Your dynamic or operating compression is probably below the minimum needed just for halfway decent operation if you have a stock set up.
