Need Tire Help

Hello all, I have a 06 F350 CC, Long Bed, with the factory 18" wheels. Right now I am using the factory Continental M+S LT 275/70R18 Load Range E Tires. I new when I first saw them they wouldn't cut it in Colorado Snow, but I bought it in May, and it hasn't been an issue until last weekends trip through the mountains. Here is what my needs are. The truck is a work truck, and will see increasingly more trailering. It is a dailey driver. It will also be off road, and I need good traction in mud and snow. I like a tire skinnier tire that will cut through the top layer of mud and snow to get to traction. What do you all recomend. It has to be able to tow/haul as miuch as the truck is rated for. The continentals only have 6000 miles on them, but I need some traction! Thanks in advance for the info. I saw some Dick Cepek "Mud Country" tires size LT325/60R18. They are wider, and a little taller. Would they fit the factory rims? Thanks guys, Levi

levi'sford,

You could look at the BFG AT T/AKO in LT285/65/R18E with the same weight rating you have now (3640lb) and are snow tire rated, they are about 0.4-inches shorter than your factory tires and slightly wider. Since they have a slightly smaller circumference than your factory tires they turn about 11 revolutions more per mile than your factory tires so there will be a slight speedometer errror of about +1.75%. If the speedometer error bothers you, you can always have the computer reprogrammed for that tire size.

Hope this helps

I've had excellent luck with the BFG A/Ts in snow, but can't comment much on their mud use. I am also looking at the same change out but am thinking of going wider, with the 305/65/18E BFG ATs, they carry a bit less, but still over the rear axle capacity.

Another option for you is to look at the Toyo Open Country A/T. Several members of this site have liked them and said they are very well made. They come in a direct replacement size for your conti's as well (275/70/18E with the same weight rating of 3640#). I like the look of the tire and found around my area, Les Schwab Tires had the best price on the Toyos...

Good Luck to you...

The BFG AT's are great in the mud and snow. They also have a heavier sidewall than most LT tires. The rubber compound is soft, so you'll pay with less tread life, but the traction and piece of mind is worth it. Excellent tire!

I went with the BFG AT KOs myself. However, blackhat is incorrect... the Contis are aboue 650revs/mile, the BFGs are in the 630s.
