Air Conditioning Needed in Winter, Right?

I am still considering my options for the new truck. I've decided to go with a brand new or slightly used F250 without any bells and whistles. I need the most bang for my buck as I will plan to make this a second vehicle when I can save enough to have a car too. An XL would be fine but I don't think it comes with Air. I don't really need Air that much as I live in a cool climate and I don't mind driving with the windows wide open. My biggest fear is that the defroster won't work well in the winter. I believe my current Chevy cylces the defroster through the air conditioner to remove excess moisture. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of trying to defrost if your truck has no air. Thanks.

my 2 cent, just get one with the air. you would be more likily to find one on the dealer lot or one that they have already ordered that has it anyway. If you "special" order it you will "lose" a sizable chunk of your leverage come "haggle" time. You will also be a lot more happy in a truck with a moderatily appointed spec sheet then a "bare bones vanilla" ride over the long hual. Just imagine yourself climbing into that nice new tuff workin truck with them easily cleaned wipem off seats on a sunny 80 degree day. hope your not wearing shorts could be 120 degrees in that cab.

Even at work we spring for air, cloth, am-fm cassette for the field guys, and you know how hard they are on trucks

I would go ahead and buy the air. Nowadays it comes in a perfered customer package. And it cost less. Plus your defrost would work better in the winter. The a/c works as a heat pump until the engine temp warms up. At least price them both and see which would be cheaper. Plus always remember resale value if you may decide to trade or sale it later.

I agree with oilwolf43. A/C also removes moisture from air, which is great for defrosting and muggy days.
