So I think I need to replace the VSS in my 1994 F-350 with a Sterling 10.25. I took what I thought was my VSS out of my axle, called NAPA, but low and behold the guy said that it was not a VSS, but it was a ABS. Soo but now I have reason to believe that there the same thing? The guy at napa said he thought that the VSS was in the tranny?
Help? I have the ABS sensor on my kitchen table, and im hoping this fixes my remaining tranny problems. -myers
You really cant tell by looking at it unless it's physically damaged. Not sue on the exact procedure to test it though. Usually if it goes bad your speedometer won;t work or it will bounce around erratically.
Well I went to the parts store, a ABS sensor is not a VSS sensor. I got a Speed Sensor but now I don't know where it goes, and I can't find anything of where it goes or how to remove/install it.
If you took it out of the the top of the rear axle it should be the VSS, this also functions as the rear wheel abs sensor. I think they might have sold you the wrong part or a front wheel abs speed sensor instead.
While im not saying that your wrong, I think that calling it the VSS is wrong.
The part that is from the top of the differential is listed in both the Ford Service manual as the ABS sensor, in Advanced Auto, and NAPA's database. However all three list an entirely different part as the Speed Sensor that is a part of the Transmission, but I don't know where it goes.
While I have heard from a couple people that the ABS sensor is also the VSS, everyone at the parts stores that I went to stated that the ABS is NOT the VSS, and the VSS is something completely different.
Can anyone VERYIFY this? I have a speed sensor here that is for the transmission (E4OD) but still can't find where it goes. Somebody? -myers
