i always put high grade gas in it and dump a bottle of octane boost in it and head to the emissions testing station..that always seems to do it for me. Either that or they are scared to dyno test it with 4 inch suspension lift, 3 inch body lift and 35x12.50x15 tires on it?

I tried every trick in the book and didn't pass untill I installed a new cat. The mounting studs were so rusted they were a lost cause so I torched them out and reinstalled the new unit with bolts. As soon as I got it installed I passed. Mines a 1990 and it's got one expensive converter! Total project cost was about $235. I believe the 88 cat is about $80 cheaper then the 90. I would think $150 would be closer for your project. Good luck.

I used a fuel additive called something such as Guaranteed to Pass available at Advance Auto Parts. Dropped all the test results well below what was needed to pass and all I did was add the gasoline additive.
