Curious
Does anyone know what the little compressor thing is on the passenger side of the engine compartment?Should it be running sometimes when key is on? Mine was running then i put my finger over the hole and it stopped.then let my finger off and it started going again.It only did this once.

Mine went out....
That is the vaccum pump. When mine failed (79.00), the panel controls for the air conditioning / defrost would not work. The default was defrost. I could turn the switch to "AC" and the compressor would come on, the air comming out of *the defrost ducts* was cold, but I couldn't get dash or floor air exhaust, only the defrost. On gas engines, the vaccum climate controls are run from the manifold, I was told, but with a diesel, you need the airpump. M
