I need to replace the brake lines on my 62 and I want to know where I can find the steel lines in bulk. I've only been able to find pre-made lines in 6" to 5' lengths at the local parts houses. I would like to find a roll so I don't have to use a bunch of couplers. Any suggestions?
I am restoring my 1965 f-350 and was having the same problem.I found a company called Classic Tube and they really helped me out.I took measurements using a string and tape measure to get the lengths of each tube.I then called this company and they made the tubes to the size i wanted. All I had to do was make the correct bends.I bought my tubes in stainless steel but they have regular steel too. The phone number is 1-800-882-3711. Talk to Dave .He was very helpful. Hope this helps!
Guys.
Sorry to take so long to respond, but if you will e-mail me I'll send you the tech article on brake upgrades and lines. You don't need anything larger than 3/16 and you can buy 20' rolls from Dennis Carpenter, LMC, or Sacramento Vintage Ford.
I don't know where you guys live, but NAPA sells the same 3/16"x20' roll for about $12.00.
You do have to double flare the lines.
By the way, those big loops at the master cylinder that you see are not necessary. They are just there because the guy bending and flaring the tubing is to lazy to cut the line to fit
Just put enough of a loop there so you have some room for error.
Skip, You are right in that you don't need all that was put in the loop. You are also right in that you do need some. However, there is a reason for that to be there and that is body and frame flex.
