Transmission

I just read a posting about flushing your transmission at 30k miles. Is this necessary? I have 50k on my truck and haven't had any problems (but I don't want to start having problems, either). What are the guidelines for choosing a time to service? Are regular mileage intervals the best, or should it only be done when you're experiencing problems (slipping or discolored fluid, or...)? I don't do much pulling, but occassionally I pull a small boat or flatbed trailer (usually around 2000 pounds or less) and usually pull the overdrive out, but a few times I had closer to 5000 lbs behind the truck (less than 5 times and only one trip was about 200 miles, others were pretty short trips).

Thanks for your help.

I won't pretend to know it all but I just completed mine at 35K and the magnet ring, the ring that attracts all the metal fibers, looked like a donut. After a while I'm sure the attraction power persay would be lessend and more metal would clog up the trans filter only to deprive the trany of proper oil flow. Kit cost $14.99, Time $00.00, 14 qrts at $3.39 per. The thuoght that its done and done write, priceless. Plus I would think if you wait till you feal or hear a problem, the cost would be much greater. Just my oppinion. Good lock.
