4.6L DOHC engine swap

I'm trying to install a 4.6L DOHC 32 valve Lincoln Mark VIII engine and trans in my '66 F-100. I'm having trouble clearing the steering box. Has anyone done this swap before? Any suggestions? I don't want to modify my front suspension or steering.

Help!!!

Evans

YIKES!!!!! I think you are on your own here!!!! this is probably a first ever swap. Is it possible to raise the engine? or relocate front or back from the steering? just guessing here I'm sure it will go with enough persistance. Just don't know how to help. John

Justin, I saw that truck in the mag at the Nationals last year. The front supension is highly modified. It's a real cool truck but I want mine original other than the engine swap. I don't think what I'm trying to do is going to work. I'm going back to my original plan of a 5.0 HO w/AOD. The 4.6 DOHC is for sale if anyone is interested. Only 35,000 miles.

How do I go about moving the steering box? Sounds good if it will work. That was my first thought but I don't know how or where to move it that would work. The only thing that I thought about that would work is a rack and pinion set up. I really don't want to do this. I like the way the truck drives and I really don't want to get into heavy modification.

Thanks,
Evans

4.6L DOHC engine swap

a friend of mine who builds street rods has built two 1932 Fords with this motor and trans combo. I would think if he can squeeze it into the extremely tight confines of 32 engine compartment, that it would fit easily in a F100. But I'm sitting in front of a keyboard and not in a garage where this is being attempted. I saw the one at the Supernationals too. I think it had Mustang II front suspension which would open up the sides a bit.

THere is a guy here in town that works for the Lincoln Mercury dealer that did it to his 65 truck. I will try to ask him what he did. I think he used a SOHC instead of the DOHC. His installation looks factory original. I don't think that he modified the suspension or steering. He may have moved the engine forward or up since you have to fabricate the motor mounts. Which part of the motor is in the way?
