here we go,
started truck with auto start, and like normal, runs fine for a few minutes and then the wastegate open while idiling and the exhaust note is just a woosh, woosh, so i think no big deal, i hear others doing the same thing, and it has something to do with worming up the motor, or so i have been told. but
left for work, it was 35 deg. outside, and running down the road at 35 to 40 mph the waste gate was opening while my foot is on the gas running 1300
rpm. and boost gauge goes to 0. and its making that wooooosh sound again, so i get hard into the throttle and the wastegate closes and the turbo spools up and the truck takes off, so im further down the road cruising same speed and it all happens again, and again, so any way, get to work, then leave a little later and no problems since. and its also been 40 to 50 deg. any thoughts, im pretty sure waste gate should be closed while cruising on the throttle.
you have the wastegate confused with the backpressure valve in the exhaust outlet side of the turbine post-turbo. the valve that makes a hissing noise is the backpresure valve, and it's normal to open and close even while driving, it helps the truck warm up faster. with enough engine load, the backpressure valve will open and allow normal operation.
and thats ok, hummm, even I need to go to school some days, thanks strokin, I was hoping i didnt hurt something, this is my first cold morning with diesel and many more to follow.
