This is the rear of the turbo setup.
The pipe you are cutting to get the connectors hooks to the drivers side manifold and the passenger side Y flange to get the exhaust up to the turbo.
You can also see the turbo outlet where all the exhaust goes into the downpipe on the turbo setup.
Cool, I see how it works now. In my picture of the exhaust kit that I posted above, the piece in the top center is the manifold to turbo pipe - the one I'm going to use to make my downpipes. The piece on the far left of my picture is the one that hooks to the turbo exhaust outlet and runs down behind the PS head next to the firewall. I wondered where that piece fit - guess now I know.....
The only question I still have is how there can be enough room for that 3" pipe between the rear of the head and the firewall.
Actually it will fit, but you have to fold over the cab seam to clear the pipe.
It is also a bit more inboard than the head, closer to my bell housing than the head.
I thought it would not fit, so I did a 2" body lift, I have plenty of room for a 5" downpipe now.
The stock downpipe was custom flattened at Ford by running over the downpipe three times with a fork lift before installing it. That custom job was installed on the 93 - 94 IDI turbo and the 94.5 - 97 Power Stroke engine.

Would that be the forklift exhaust pipe mod Dave is famous for?
BTW, that kit I got? Turns out it isn't a Dynomax system after all. It's an ATS system designed to work with their turbo kit - and it appears to be 100% complete.
Kinda' wondering if, instead of hacking it up, maybe I should sell it and use the money to buy one that fits my truck right out of the box.....
