Tried the floss method, but only cut in about an inch. So what is the best way to remove the door and fender emblems without messing up the body or paint?
If you are just trying to take them off the door pannel, I would recomend a heat gun or a good hair dryer to soften up the 2 sided tape. Start on one side and after you heat the badge, start yo pull up on the emblem and use your string. Work your way down the badge until you get to the end.
I used a putty knife and duct taped the end to avoid scratching
the i was able to peel the tape off w my fingers and just wash the spot w soap and water.
FEI nailed it,
Have a buddy hold a hair dryer and you sawin the fishing line back an forth. To get the remaining adh off the I use mineral spirits to soften it then gently scrape away the adh. I`ve done it 9 times so far and all is well,,hope my .02 helps
Thanx for the tips guys. The way the floss worked for about an inch on the door emblems, I thought perhaps I ran into a peg. I'll heat it and take another run at it with some fishing line.
I assume the fender emblems have pegs, so I suppose the best way to pull of is to use the floss/fishing line as much as possible, then pry the emblem off to overcome the pegs?
Yep, updating to the new emblems and the larger grill...I just like the look and it will match my wheels and provide a cleaner look than the current emblems and grill with the argent coloring.
What are you gonna do for headlights? Post some pics when you get a chance. I am thinking about changing my headlgihts out again, so the ones I have now will go cheap.
Nothing like having a newer looking truck with the good old 7.3
I updated the headlights, corner and turn signals with some clear one's I was able to pick up on Ebay. Really added a much nicer (updated) look...in addition to providing much brighter headlights. I upgraded the headlight bulbs to the Oznium Platinum bulbs, which I also have used in my BMW 7, and really work well. I also went ahead and upgraded the headlight harness to provide better voltage to the headlights...all the changes really made a difference. All the better to see the deer about to cross the road, much better and much sooner.
I kicked myself at the time I was installing the new corner and turn signals because I hadn't picked up some of those silver coated bulbs that turn yellow when lit...so I just installed the 'regular' bulbs that I already had. I was really bummed with myself for failing to make a trip to Autozone, until evening came and I lit the new lights up. The 'regular' bulbs give off a beautiful champagne color that nobody else around town had...really makes the lights stand out nicely.
I have the projector style light now- MUCH BETTER than stock. I was thinking about putting some from the 05/up model trucks, but I have my eye on these ones from fleabay- 270030286345.
I wish the aftermarket 1 piece would have been available when I first changed them, but oh well. These ones look pretty sweet.
