Looking for a little advice from those of you who have replaced transmission modulators. I discovered tranny fluid in the vacuum line on my 92 shorty 3.0 so I went to Ford and bought a new modulator... My question is, How difficult is it to get the old one out? Any special tools or tricks that can speed things up? I plan to replace it tonight or tomorrow, so I need a response ASAP.
Thanks.
Thanks to all for the help. I got the job done last night and as I expected the modulator was rusted in place and was not easy to remove. I pryed, twisted, tapped etc. etc. until the pot portion broke off of the shaft, then I pryed, tapped, chiseled etc. etc. on the half inch of shaft that was left for about an hour then it finally broke free. I also had to lower the tranny in order to get better access to the damn thing. But Ill stop whining now, she's done.
Thanks again.
save lots of money at your local discount auto parts store...shop around
Motorcraft/Ford no longer makes parts....all outsourced
look for shift problems 1>2>3 and down especially under hard throttle....ATF oil in vacuum line to modulator
more problems on 3L because of no heat shield to protect it from being cooked by the cat. converter and exhaust...fashion a DIY shield from sheet aluminum
will last 10-20 years if ATF is changed every 30k and heat shield put in
