I have a '62 with a 223 and the original LD 3spd. The rearend is the orignal 3.73 (I think, perhaps a little higher). I want to here some recomendations on a lower ratio so that I can run highway speeds (70-75ish) without being almost at wot. Or, how hard would it be to add an overdrive unit to my existing tranny? Perhaps a later Ford tranny w/overdrive will bolt up to my block?
Tyson, 3.50 is probably about as low as you should go with that engine to keep it balanced economy & pull. If take off doesn't matter 3.25 will get you good mpg but it will be weak.

In the cool still quite of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
A friend of mine installed a late model T-5 5 speed transmission behind his Y-block and another friend's 223 also. Go to the links, click on Badgerland F100's, scroll down to the "Ask MR" tech section. MR is the guy to ask how.
I had a 3 to 1 laying around and put it in my '62 with a 223. No gain on the top end, and no power against a 30 mph Kansas headwind. Stay with a 3.25 or 3.5.
