i used the search option for quite a while and couldn't find an answer, so i'll post up. my friend has a 69 ford "super van" (used to be a fire department ambulance) that is having some braking problems. i took off a front wheel to try to pull off a drum, and it wouldn't pull off. looks like its connected somehow. now i've changed drums before, just on newer (1984+) rigs. i didn't try to mess with it further, as they need it for daily transportation. is there a certain way to take the drum off, or did i just not pull hard enough? i would like to at least get the fronts changed. theres no disc brake swap plans on this rig, it just needs to be able to stop half-way decently at the lowest price.
thats what i am slowly finding out. im kinda lost on this one. is there a write-up for this that anyone knows about. i hate to ask a million questions. Like what is the torque value for the hub? is there a special tool? how do i adjust them? do i have to change the bearings at the same time?
take the hub nut off. The wheel bearing will fall out when you pull on the drum. you will probably have to back off the brake adjuster to get the drum off.when you put the hub back on repack the bearings .tighten nut about 25 ft-lbs loosennut 1/8 turn.snug nut and install new cotterpin.
