Just wondering....

How many of yall heard of, and are going to participate in the "30 hour famine"-by World Vision-with your church( or by yourself, etc.).

I just heard about it last night at church and I am going to try and fast for that long. So I was just wanting to know how many other people's churches have announced it.

Our church is having a Saturday night prayer time, then that Sunday we will have church and night service. And following the night service were gona pig out. lol

Oh, I forgot to put that. lol

The purpose is to raise money to feed the children in Africa.
Like ask people for a dollar for every hour ya fast, or ask for any amount of donation.
And a time to get closer to God, spend that time praying, reading in the Bible and fellowshiping with others, a chance witness.

$1 for 1 child = 1 day of food

So that is the purpose also.
And on the website www.30hourfamine.org it says that the governtment will match the amount raise by 8 times.

"These grants will give Famine donations raised over the summer an effectiveness of eight times! That means for every $360 you raise to feed and care for a child for a year, you could actually provide food and care for as many as eight children."

I agree with where your money goes lenny1carl!
And yes its ok to disagree.
This has been somthing that God has laid upon my heart to do. And given the chance and guidance I will give to many other things.
My mom sponsors a child in another country and I have written letters to him. So I am looking forward to sponsoring a child myself and helping many others.
I have been praying hard for God to guide me where to give and about mission trips.
And the US military funds and Cancer research is a good place to start also!

Honest ! Not really trying to being a spoil sport but,
The biggest problem in Africa these days is that the universally donated money and food is being intercepted by their corrupted gov't and actually doesn't reach the people it's intended to get to.

If her plan works out ...That's incredibly wonderful

My Sister & BIL sponsor 2 African children firsthand (don't know how that works) but the intention is great.

Why dont we feed OUR OWN PEOPLE first, then save the world???

Thats my only beef with pretty much all churches, and the reason i don't give much, when/if i ever go.

I ask people all the time...why the hell are you sending all this over to a third world country, when you have starving americans just down the road to help???

No one has an answer that is remotely reasonable.

nothing better than donating to a country whose president has 5 palaces, a private jet, and 10 benz's all for him. and enough money to provide for a nice military force and military action against poeple.

Good for you CS. I have been a monthly supporter of World Vision for many years. Of all the aid organizations out there, I believe they are one of the better ones. If someone feels that there are more worthy causes let them support them. There are many people tragically in need of help. A 30 hour fast will help anyone realize what a blessing a grocery store and some money in your pocket is.

I have had two great opportunities to help serve and feed the homeless here. And I loved it!! I am looking forward to doing it again. And I agree with that also, even if we all skipped going out to eat once a month etc. we could us that money to donate food to the hungry here in America.

Giving to a church is great also though. Depending where they put their money and personal preference. For example I would give to help pay off addition debts, but not a new slide show program.

The only sad thing now is that ya have to watch and research where your money goes. Half of the people asking for it gives, at the most, is 20% of what you donate. I've had one orginization even admit that only 5% went to the fund.
