Hey guys, what is the secret to removing and replacing my water pump...It is a 2001 B4000 with a 5 speed manual, air, and towing package if that matters. I guess i really need to know what is the secret for removing and replacing the serpentine belt since that is what is holding me up......
Serpentine belt should come off by releasing the tensioner. I believe the 4.0 is the same as my 2.3, where you use a 3/8" drive breaker bar (or ratchet) with no socket in a hole on the tensioner and push it to the side (mine pushes to the right side of the truck, but I know the belt routing is different on the 4.0, so I'm not sure there) and slip the belt off.
got it, now i need to know how to get the clutch fan assembly loose from the water pump, it is different than the ohv because the threads on my new pump are right handed, where my book says left handed,,,,help
OK GUYS done, broke down and bought the special tool for removing the water pump pulley, works on several makes and models,,,,sure made it easier////
Also learned that the older 4.0's had left hand threads for the fan shaft where the newer, SOHC, have right hand threads
FYI the water pump was not leaking, it ran dry for a few minutes when i had a leak in my upper hose....be aware all you guys with the B4000 or 4.0L Ranger, the upper radiator hose wore on a hose clamp (for another hose) that it has been sitting on since new. Look for this before it is too late.....
More FYI,,,the original serp belt was ultra tight....could not put it back on as a matter of fact...the replacement belt (NAPA) was an inch longer and fit great.....not too loose i hope, lol
