Powertrax poor customer support
Wow I can say I am not impressed with powertrax customer support and felt it my duty to let others know before they invest in a powertrak locker. I have a 76 F-250 2 wheel drive I need better traction with so I did tons of research and went with a Powertrax for the supposed easy of installation and such.\
Well put it in yesterday- pretty straight foward or so I thought, passed the test you are supposed to do before you button it all up. well the thing did not last 20 feet backed up and heard a clunk- well a paddle on the spacer broke off turning it back into a one wheel drive- poor one at that as now I can not even drive up my drive way so I have to work onthe truck in the ditch.
No problem things happen so I get up early this morning to phone Powertrax and was either improper installation or defective coupler ring. If I want any kind of warranty send it back and they will determine what it was. Well I live inthe Yukon and to send to them and get it back would probably be a month and money in freight, so I try to go the route of buying the part and getting shipped to me- Was going to be around $100 shipping for 2-3 day service and they would only go through dealers and no one stocks any parts any ways so they have to come from powertrax. The part is going tocost me $50 and it I go with no so affordable shipping at $50 for shipping I am into this locker another $100 before i even see if it can perform.
I would have thought Powertrax would have said- due to your location we will send one out right away and since it would be close to the same price for shipping to diagnose if it was my fault or theirs- we will get you the part. Fo them it is probably no more than a $10 part. They gave me a bunch of phone numbers and I was on the phone for several hours trying to get this figured out.
Now it looks like I won't see the part for 3 weeks or so, i have to put all my old spider gears back in place wait for the part and then rip it all out and start over. Trying to get out hunting so I can not jsut leave the truck and wait for the part. Just hope the part gets here before winter.
Anyone else have problem like this with either thier powertrax or with the customer support. Now I am pissed at Pwertrax and wonder if I want to rely on their product out in the bush and risk getting left high and dry because of product failure
