Hey guys I dont know if this is the proper forum for this but theres a lot off knowledgeable people around here.Heres the question. I put on anew set off tires on my superduty 3 weeks ago an now I have a vibration at about 60 MPH. Its not extreme but noticable. The tires were balanced before they put them on. The ball joints were fine when I checked them out. So could the tires be defective or maybe the balance job was not done right. The tires are the standard 16 inch tires that came with the truck. So what would you do first to correct the situation. I havent had the truck aligned since I bought it used 3 years ago. It now has 53,000 miles on her. It steers great no wondering at all. Just this vibration problem. The steering stabilizer thats on the front off the truck. Could it go bad. And what symptoms would that cause.. Thanks for any help. Quick replies would be appreciated. Ill be gone later this afternoon. Thanks
Sounds like a balance issue. If it's only at 60. If it noticeable at any speed, or comes on gradually, then could have been the tires. Try to feel if its in the seat or the steering wheel. Seat shaking would be in the rear tires, steering wheel of course would be the front. It is not that hard to be off a little bit on balancing tires. If you don't mind weights on the outside of the rim, it's best to dynamic balance.
what size tires did you go with? it sounds like you went back with stock size. if thats the case you may have some big problems. if you went to a larger size tire then it's safe to say that the oversize tires are causing issues that you arent used to with the truck.
make sure everything is tight. slapping a set of larger tires will really bring out any imperfections you may have started with and didnt notice with the small tires.
if everything is tight then i would go have Equal (not the sugar substitute) in all your tires. it is basically a bunch of small beads that go inside your tire and as your tire rolls the centrifical force forces the beads to the low or out of balance areas causing a smoother ride. the problem with Equal is that when it gets wet it clumps up so the air you pump in has to be dry or you will rattle your kidneys loose!
or you could do what we rednecks do and thats crack open the tire/wheel and drop in a handful of bb's they dont clump up and a box of 3000 is like $10
