I am having a hard time finding an auto column for a 64. Do any of you know where I can get one? I bought one that was supposed to be for a 64, but was 61-62. Only have to have the outer tube as I have everything else. I think a 63 will work but I am not positive. I have the four speed column for my truck and I can make what I need but I hate to ruin both to make one. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks to all,
Rich
Low mileage 64 F100 with original automatic. Still had the column gear box and brake pedal hangar. I got the shift lever and told the kid to save the outer column cause it was important. It was in a Junk Yard in Junction City Kansas last month. You will need help from someone local with this one because I don't have the name of the Yard. You may try "Easy Jack" in Junction City, he may be willing to go get this part and he ships all over the US. 785 238-7541 or 785 238-7161. Found the phone book I swiped in Kansas! Try D.C. Auto Salvage 1 800-972-3682 or ACE Auto Salvage Not sure of the area code try 785 or 620 then 238-7525.

William,
Can you give me any other info on this yard, where the column was. I contacted Ace, DC and Hess but did not do any good. I also contacted Easy Jack which is about six miles out of town. Only Hess and Easy Jack have any of the older stuff of these four yards. Easy Jack said they would check and get back to me, but you know how things get put on the back burner sometimes. I got the impression that the truck was not in easy jacks yard from what you wrote. Can you give me any other idea of where the yard is located, maybe a street or side of town?
Thanks,
Rich
66F100; The truck is in either ACE or DC Salvage. Try calling back. Both are located on East 8th Street. Side by side. Give it another shot.

Hi Willaim,
Well I think I found the column you were talking about. Ace had it but, it was a 62. I really appreciate your trying. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you.

Rich: I am having trouble understanding why you say the 61-62 will not fit your truck. I have messed with these trucks for 18-19 years and I admit I haven't had a lot of them that were automatic, but my FORD book says with the exception of the 61-62 having a different turn signal switch and wiring pattern, that the columns themselves are the same. That is why I can't see it not fitting, unless it is a 4x4 or power steering or something. Hummmmmm. Smiley
Rich, When I converted my truck to automatic I also installed the brake pedal and bracket from an automatic. Hated the sawed off clutch pedal crap! I'm picky. Anyway the truck at ACE still had this automatic bracket. It must really be a rare piece.

Hi Smiley,
Here's what I'm trying to do. I have a C6 I am putting in the truck behind a 351w. So I need a collar with the C6 dial like the 66. The early columns (61-2) are different in that those do not have enough slot for the throw on the column shift to match the dial. Also, the column sits in the collar with an exact fit to keep the collar from moving around. I can make what I need out of the two columns but hate to ruin two to make one. Since I have none to copy from, I can only guess as to the differences, other than what I see in my old four speed column and the automatic. I do know the wiring trough is in a different spot, bottom left as apposed to top left in the early ones. My parts book only goes to 63, so I'm not even sure that 63 and 64 are the same. I do think this is the case though as both use the same turn signal. My 64 collar will not fit the 62 column, as the 62 collumn has no cutout for part of the turn signal and the 66 collar fits my 64 collumn. I will most likely end up splicing the the top of the 64 column to the bottom of the 62 just above the nuetral safety switch. As I said, I have not seen nor measured the 63 nor 64 auto columns, so am hoping to at least get to see and measure one before starting the project. There is a 64 4+4 with auto for sale abuot 100 miles south of here, but I
don't think he would take to well to the idea of me taking his column apart to take measurements. I had planned on going to the nationals look for a column, but some unexpected bills have pretty much trashed my going this year. I do appreciate your response, and will keep your number. I am capable of doing the conversion, I just hate to destroy something that someone else may need. I found four of the early columns, and cannot believe that the later ones are more scarce. However, this may be the case, and I'm to hard headed to believe it.
Thanks,
Rich
Hi William, thanks for the thought. I have one locally I can check on, and will do so. May even get the other one in Kansas, as I have an extra column.
Thanks again,
Rich
