I have a 2006 F150 Screw that is white/tan. I have never really liked the way the fender flares are painted tan... my question is can you removing them or will it be better to paint them? Thanks
i believe you will be left with holes on the side of your truck is you do. There would be holes used by the flares to guide itself in. I may be wrong but that is how it is with the FX4s....
The dealertold me there are actually clips that are welded to the steel under those ugly flares, not just holes. I asked the day I picked up my Lariat because I was going to remove them. I too hated the tan paint, they should be body color. You can get them painted, but either do it on the truck or plan on them breaking at least one trying to remove to paint. They are $100+ea. if I remember correct.
I have removed my Lariat's flares and it isn't pretty!!
My '06 Lariat has body colored flares, so I took them off to prep the lower half of the truck to a new color, sapphire blue metallic while the hood and upper cab remains in the stock Smokestone Metallic.
Each flare has about 8 or 10 holes behind them in the sheet metal of both front & rear fenders with plastic clips that hold the flare in tight, no glue or chaulk or double sided tape is used, just these white plastic clips that are attached to the plastic fender flare.
The stock flares are very soft plastic and I was told by my dealer's body shop that once factory painted, it's hard to make them look nice when repainted - so he told me to order a new set without any paint to have a perfect match to my new exterior blue color. Instead, I'm going to fill all the holes with new welds in the sheet metal and leave the flares off when I get the lower half painted for a much nicer, smoother look to the fenders.
Hope this helps your decision.
