I found a boneyard that will sell a wheelbarrow full of parts for $100 so my first thought was discs for my 65 F250. I'm not sure what kind of brakes I found tho. 8 lug rotors of course but only 1 was there and it was all ate up! I'd want new ones on those anyway.
The calipers mount on the front side of the spindle and have 2 pistons per side. Big Brakes! Makes me wonder if they aren't F350 stuff but the truck had no badges and the driver's door was gone too. No way to tell.
So I've got calipers, I beams with spindles, radius rods, proprtioning valve and front lines, associated bracketry for the discs, but no master cylinder or, as I mentioned, rotors. Any suggestions for an M/C or ideas on what the hell I bought?
I also noticed this junker truck had a front and rear swaybar. I'm kinda planning on some BIG tires because I'm not completely satisfied with the 3.54 gears I installed so the truck will be
be getting higher. Call it a psuedo off roader so maybe swaybars ain't a bad idea?
Sounds like a great deal, all that for $100. Wish my local yards were priced like that! One thought, if you can find ford part numbers on the parts, go to a ford dealer and have them look up the numbers. This will tell you some info. As far as the M/C goes, I would look for a late '70s Ford truck unit, especially if you are building a bigger truck like your F250. Modifications to the push rod, etc. may be needed, but there are lots of posts in here covering M/C and Discs. Good Luck with your truck!
Seems to me that the 250's and 350's both had dual calp. mounted on the front of the rotor in the mid to later '70's...the 250's had 1/2 inch lug bolts, and most of the 350's had 9/16 inch lugs...there should be a dif. in the wheel bearings also....Packrat_1954
