6.0 problem

i bought a used 2004 f-250 with 64,000 miles with a 6.0. the problem i'm having is when the truck gets hot the truck dies. when i slow down and try to stop the truck dies and it won't start back up untill it cools down about 4-5 hours. i've brought it to 2 shops and both shops put it on the computer and it comes up with no problems. they also did a pressure check on the fuel pump and it's ok. this problem is puzzleing them and myself. i've had to have my dad with his dodge tow me home 5 times this week. he keeps saying Found On Road Dead. if any one can help me please let me know. thanks

03 and 04 were problematic years for those trucks. keep persisting at the dealer and if not, find another dealer. they'll always try and say, "the computer says it's fine"
instead of doing real diag and finding the problem.

the quick disconnect fitting on your high pressure oil pump is bad. These generally show up when the motor is hot. It most generally will restart after cooldown.

Wow... amazing....

Vincent... you need to start-up "internet diagnoises and repairs".

Amazing how someone with your experience can at least have a place to start after reading someones 30 second post of their problem. Sure hope he posts what he or his dealer find out after mentioning your advice.

Now... do you have the answer to "women... and understanding how they work"?

Vince,

Do we really need that quick disconnect or, in my case where I'll be tearing it apart soon for other mods, would I be wise to cut that out and replace it with some stainless braided line still allowing it to flex, but getting rid of the poor design?

I really dont think there should be any flex back there. The branch tubes arent strong enough to take much movement, and the pump is stationary. The replacement comes with a bracket that stiffens everything up. The quick connect is because there isnt any room back there.

Sorry to bud in... 2004 has the old style pump. No STC fitting on that one. But I do agree with it likely being a high pressure oil leak nonetheless.

Then again, FICM harness concerns have a knack for showing up when the underhood temps are nice and high.

Here's a pic from the Ford Doctors site of the disconnect vloney is talking about:
