I bought my truck about a month or so ago and i want to know a couple of things
what kind of 1/8 or 1/4 i would run stock.
Vehicles that i could give a shot on the street , like z71's and hemi dodges, am i quicker or would they take me, i dont want to talk smack and get handed
I had a z71 with exhaust revving at me at a stop light and sice turbo lag kills off the line i didnt try and i didnt want to lock it in 4 wheel and boost it
Having one of my best students hit and killed by someone street racing, all I can say is please don't...she was 17 and had her whole life ahead of her. It was senseless death caused by an idiot with short mans syndrom.; if you must take it to the strip don't endanger the rest of us because you feel you must impress everyone.
i dont street race by any means or at least what you are thinking, im not sensless or a complete idiot, i will get on it now and again but who doesnt. I just wanted to know if i could and when i do its not in a wreckless manner 10 to 15 over speed limit at most!
you hit on a big thing, turbo lag. I know a bunch of guys that race each other ( not on the street ) and here's what they do to minimize the affects of turbo lag. Basically power brake the truck untill the rpm's get up to an acceptable level, and then let off the brake and hammer the gas. I havn't tried it with my truck, cause I really can't get it to work, but that's what those guys do. Once you get into the power band of a 6.0, you'll do well against any other stock diesel, and many modified ones. As far as 1/2 tons go, well, there's allot of different ones out there, and I'm not a big racer so I can't help you too much.
I never ran my 03 stock at the track, but a stock hemi will beat a stock Z71. The dodge probably runs high 15's to low 16's. Add a chip or programmer only and neither have a chance. I ran 14.1 with intake, exhaust, and chip(edge), but my racing days are over. I have had 4 6.0's, the two I modified had problems, the two stock 6.0s no problems. Whatever you choose to do, good luck.
I'm all for racin' and stuff and puttin' people in their places. But really, if we're trying to show which TRUCK is better I'd prefer to hookem together with chains and find out which truck is really better. A truck that, by itself, weighs more than 3 tons isn't made to go fast. If you wanna go fast, do what I did and buy a Trans AM and turn it into a 12 second car. It's a lot more satisfying and safe. That's just what I recommend, but good luck either way.

I beg to differ, but I think it's very satisfying to take my 4 TON truck, yes, it's 8000 pounds, down to the strip and spank the trans am's.
I didn't run mine stock, but with intake, exhaust and chip I was doing a 14.8 in the 1/4 mile. Since the mods I've added in my sig, I'm down to a 13.5. I have new injectors, a regulated return fuel system and some other home grown mods that I'll be doing in a couple weeks that will have me in the mid to low 12's.
Also, I do not street race. It costs $10 to run on Friday nights at a strip only an hour from me. They call them Test n' Tune nights. Look up a local strip by Google searching drag strip and you'll find something. It's nice to have the time slips after each mod to know what it really helped.
One other tip. You do need to launch a diesel the right way. Lock it in 4wd, it won't damage it on straights and you need the added traction unless you just want to waste the rear tires. Hold the brakes down hard and give it enough juice to get it to 15lbs boost. When your ready, hold on tight, let off the brake and stomp it to the floor. It's such a rush!!
Then look into the rear view mirror to make sure your transmission isnt going to kill someone behind when it falls out.
The 5R110 in these trucks is very strong. It's not going to give him a problem. I put a new torque converter in mine after I added several mods, but it didn't really need it just yet. I did it for peace of mind.
I have a 05 Hemi and a PSD. My wife will beat me every time in the 1/4 mile in her stock hemi against my stock 6.0. I think my 6.0 is one of the quicker ones. The Hemi has very good bottom end for the weight it's pushing.
