swaping transmissions
I'm new here. I'm looking at a 1999 explorer xlt with a SOHC V6,auto and 94,000 miles. While I was test driving it the transmission started to slip while going uphill. I shifted down to 1st, then shifted to 2nd and it slipped. How hard is it to change the transmission? Can a do it yourselfer do it? Is there anything else I should know about the transmission? Thank you.

This is a toughie 7 out of 10 I would say. The exhaust is just about the size of the bell housing and is extremely tight. The other thing is in the back of the transfer case your speedometer is too far out so it will hit the shield around the the gas tank when you go to remove it. Just be careful and take your time. the other thing is what are you replacing it with ?

if u have not bought the vehicle.. i would really consider why a car with 94k needs a new tranny..(heavy towing, mistreated) also if you are going to buy it and then replace the tranny.. i would not pay alot for it in the first place.. just a thought.
