Hello
I got a hood off of my 67 Fairlane and what happened is the skin (or sheetmetal) on the top has seperated from the main metal supports in the middle of the hood. It looks like there is a black glue type material that is used to hold it in place. Can anyone tell me what that stuff is called. I was wanting to fix it. I hope you know what I am talking about I am not very good at explaining it.. Thanks....
I am not sure exactly what was used on that car, but newer ones use an expanding foam type material, called "flutter control". Believe it will also be somewhat flexable. One of the panel adhesive companys should make something you could use. 3m, fusor, usc, sem are just a few that make adhesives. Or a windshield urethane probably would work. You will need to clean out the old stuff and should hava a fairly clean surface possibly rough up the surface where the adhesive will contact. I don't think you really want a rigid adhesive, There is some space between the outer skin and inner reinforcement and think your looking for a material that is somewhat flexable and can be built up some. Look on fusors site, they have a few different repair procedures on there site, hopefully something similar to what you are looking for. http://www.lord.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1204#121124
