Would it be worth it to bore out a 351w? would it really increase the preformance of the engine? what would be the best to bore it over at .30 .60 ? thanks
David
David you can use a 400 crank with some fancy grinding and the right rods and pistons to get 510 CID good for 800+HP on pump gas it'll cost you though. On the other hand .30 over will get you a couple of more ponies. Good luck Rich
If rebuilding, have the machine shop bore the block as little as possible to clean up the cylinders. The more iron you remove, the less there is to dissipate heat. The extra cubes from a simple overbore aint worth spit in a bucket for power increase. IMHO
Just boring the block will get a minimal increase in horse power. If the engine is worn, then boring and new pistons will restore the lost power that the engine had. There are several ways to go about bumping your output power. Stroking the motor will give a big boost in torque, especially at low end. Heads are also another place you can get a realistic increase in power, along with the right cam. If your engine is not in need of boring, the first thing I would look at is changing the cam. The second item is compression ratio, which is in direct relation to the size of the head chamber. Larger head chamber, smaller compression ratio. You don't say what year engine you have, or what if any mods have been made to it. Does it have a two or four barrel intake? The first place to start with in building performance in an engine, is what is it you are trying to do. Are you just trying to gain some power for everyday use, or building something to go to the drag strip with on saturday night. To give good advice, we need more info. Just one more piece of info on the stroker engines, stroking the engine also icreases the compression, so you have to have the right chamber size in the head to keep the compression down to run street fuels.

its out of a '78 ford ltd it has a 2bbl on it now but we are changing the intake. Its a daily driver to school but I want as much torque as possible thanks alot guys
