As announced in the all dealer letter dated October 7, 2004 and reminder letter dated May 17,2006- your dealerships technicians that are currently certified in 51- diesel engine performance must complete the diesel engine performance update web course (code 51s-update) NO LATER THAN 9/30/2006. Bowtie and canada, please tell me you have done the update, I'm skeered, I dont wanna be left alone with all these meanies.
I was mentioning before about how I felt EGR and turbo cleaning are just temporary fixes... do you remember this from TSB 06-04-12?
"Complete all of the following steps. Devices such as the EGR Valve, Turbocharger, Catalyst, MAP sensor and EBP sensor that fail the PC/ED pinpoint tests, must be replaced and not cleaned. Mechanically clean components such as the intake manifold and EBP tube. Install a new component if the cost of cleaning exceeds the replacement value."
Yeah, I remember. What I have seen is directives have changed 180 degrees at times depending upon failures. The first flashes actually allowed for up to 30% egr flow. We both know how well that worked out. If at a corporate level, returned defective parts are found to be mostly crudded up but otherwise operational, it would be a logical move to change an earlier directive. I have always believed that we are being used in the research and development stages. Tech findings are used to influence future repair procedures (ever send in an edsr?)
A dealership that I worked at about 5 years ago used to pay us one dollar for each EDSR we filed... So, I filed tonnes of them, even won a few prizes... but incentives are gone where I'm working now, so I don't really bother anymore, and I'm way too busy anyway...
man yall get up early, i was still dreaming bout a 6.0 transplant in my car lol. anyways, i have felt we were guinea pigs for a while. look at the contour. alot of that technology you will find on cars today no matter where you look. but i am sure that applys to every manufacturer out there.
ya i have the update as per my stars records. how you guys liking your trucks?

I try not to dwell on the contour, you like to forget nightmares. As far as trucks, I own a couple of gassers ( altho I'm not afraid of the 6.0).
You guys get training? Wow!
Our service manager got told by the DP to cut costs so we get just enough training to keep going and that's it.

Now what's wrong with a Contour?
Other than the wiring problems, VCT problems, removing the axle and exhaust to replace the alternator, broken springs all the time, water leaks, hmmm actually maybe it would be easier to list what's good about the Contour.
Well umm lemme think.
Oh yeah....the heater blower motor is easy to replace

That seems to be a common thing in Canada. Ford keeps lowering shop competency requirements because dealer principles are complaining that they are spending too much money in training cost... although it all comes out in the end when it comes time to apply for a warranty labor rate increase... but most look at dollars spent over dollars made... not the case here though, there is only one course on the list that I haven't got, but I'm waiting for it to come up.
About 4 1/2 years now. My body feels like it's been more like 20.
I shouldn't complain too much, because when the rest of the shop is standing around staring at the walls going broke, I'm crawling around under the hood of a truck making money.
A very wise instructor once told me that if you fix 6.0s, you'll never be out of work...
Damn, is there an editorial in that statement. Luckily in 21,xxx miles my 6.0 has only been back to the dealership twice. Once to get the new calibration, the other was to take my wife to pick up her new 06 Mustang GT.
